Right, so, this is a shout out to my followers (or anyone else who manages to stumble across this post) who are the Inception fandom. I’ve basically been considering doing a crossover between Inception and the Phantom of the Opera. It would be Arthur/Eames
(of course) so Arthur would be in the role of Christine and Eames as the Phantom. Except I was thinking that Eames isn’t really deformed, but was just hired by Dom and Mal Cobb to take on the role of the “opera ghost” in order to draw more people to the opera house. As Erik himself says in Susan Kay’s Phantom to Garnier: “There really ought to be a ghost. Ghosts are a testimony to the past; they give a building character, a sense of mystery and hidden allure.” So instead of Eames being a deformed, recluse, he’s actually just putting his excellent skills as a forger to work. And since he’s brilliant when it comes to music, part of his deal is being able to control what operas are preformed and who is placed in which parts.
So then Arthur comes along, having been taken in by his old friends Dom and Mal after the death of his father. Eames hears him sing and is instantly entranced not only with Arthur’s voice but all the ways he could prefect it. So appears to Arthur under the guise of the “Angel of Music” promised by his father. However, over their years spent together he begins to fall for Arthur and longs to meet him. The only problem is that when he introduces himself to Arthur as Eames, the largest patron of the opera house, Arthur hates him. And this is because Arthur is in love with the mysterious person who comes to him at night (who he’s pretty sure isn’t really an angel at this point), not the super flashy Eames.
So Eames becomes both the Phantom and Raoul in a way there. And maybe there’s some people trying to wrest control of the opera house away from the Cobbs, maybe a reluctant Robert Fischer on behalf of his father. I have no idea who would be Carlotta, although I can definitely see Mal as Madame Giry and Ariadne as a Meg Giry type character.
So tell me what you think?
I really don’t expect anyone to respond to this but I had to share.
