Matilda Holmes stood at the vast sash window, overlooking the wide stretch of lawn at the front of her stately home, and smiled at the sight of the high, summer sun and her youngest boy, Sherlock, entertaining himself with the family dog – Kim. She barked her playful bark as she bounced on her three-year-old legs and enticed four year old Sherlock into making delighted giggles to break his usual silence. Bethany watched from a little way back, just off the grass, ensuring the Golden Retriever didn’t get too rough with the sensitive tot but found her presence was all but useless. Given the chance, Sherlock would sit curled up with Kim the entire day - that was until Mycroft would appear and his new obsession would become his older brother, giving the tired dog a break but also leaving her feeling a little neglected until morning.
